To flu shot or not to flu shot… That is the question.

needleWell, I did flu shot.  I have a baby in the house and a son and husband with asthma; all high risk individuals.  So I thought it would be an added protection for my family.  But let me tell you I will likely not be doing that again.  I have received the flu shot in the past with no problems, and my “reaction” to the flu shot (which I will detail here shortly) may have had nothing to do with the vaccine itself but I am now gun-shy.

I received the shot on Friday without immediate incident.  The next few hours I was rather anxious and hyper, but certainly did not contribute that to the injection.  That evening I attended a dinner party with family.  I kept feeling “funny” in the head…cloudy thinking…dizzy.  By 8pm I was shaking violently.  (Okay, maybe violently is an exaggeration, but ask the fam, it was quite extreme for the chills).  This continued for several hours until all my muscles hurt from continuously contracting, I could hardly stand and I was sure my head would implode.  Long story short, I went home had a night of chills, sweats, fever, aches, nausea…woke the next morning fine.

Did any of this have to do with the flu shot?  My doctor says no…the flu shot would take 2 weeks to cause a reaction (not sure I buy this).  But in either case I am certainly going to be thinking twice before getting the vaccine next year.  Side note:  both of my sons got the shot, quickly followed by colds; and my husband also received the vaccine, immediately followed by throat/tongue swelling and faintness (definitely an allergic reaction - did I mention he’s allergic to eggs? – he won’t be doing that again).

sick-person.jpgThe good news is that we can protect ourselves now from the flu, colds and anything else that comes our way by shoring up our defenses.  Boost your immune system now and stave off potentially weeks of feeling awful and spreading that awfulness to others.  A healthy immune system starts with a healthy diet, avoiding excess sugar, getting plenty of rest and exercise.

For nutritional support to enhance immunity, provide antioxidant defense and a whole lot more there is nothing more complete than our daily supplement program.  And to really boost your immune system, use our immune system booster, the only dietary supplement in the U.S. that naturally increases the production of interferon in the body.  Clinical studies show the extraordinary health and immune protection benefits of the extract blend found in this product.
