What a mom really wants
Okay, I know there are some moms that can identify with this one…
With my youngest now over a year old, I was feeling confident that I could finally make a trip to the bathroom, alone, without fear that someone would destroy something or cause injury. I was wrong (well, sort of).
I made said lone trip to bathroom feeling quite confident that my two boys would quietly entertain themselves. I listen…silence. Ah, this is nice. Wait, maybe too silent, I worry. Then my youngest begins whining. Probably just missing mommy. Feeling good about my moment alone I emerge to find…my 2 year old pointing a spray bottle of Basic H2 directly at my 1 year olds head and spraying.
My little guy was taking the assult bravely with a wince and a wimper. He is soaked. His entire head is drenched, dripping down his face and shirt. The floor is wet. A 3rd of the bottle has been emptied.
For a child that moves at a turtles pace when we’re late for preschool, he certainly moved lightening fast to push a chair up to the counter, reach across to get the spray bottle, chase his brother down and spray a third of the contents on his head, all in what, the 2 minutes I took to use the bathroom. Ah, motherhood.
Well, the moral of this story is that, while I was unhappy with my 2 year old’s attack on his brother, I was not for a second concerned about the danger of the weapon. Our household cleaners are so safe and all natural that there is no worry of them causing injury. In fact he didn’t even complain of it in his eyes; it’s pH balanced as well.
Imagine how different the story would have been if the product had been one of those toxic chemical cleaners from the supermarket. Instead of a time out for the big one and a towel down for the little one, we’d have been rinsing head and eyes under the sink and then rushing off to the ER.
Knowing that 90% of all poison exposures occur at home with household products, I know that choosing safe, natural cleaners makes our home safer for our children. What I don’t know, is when can a mom take a bathroom break, alone?
